RELIGIOUS TOURISM AND ABBEYS DISCOVERY
In our neighbourhood there are many abbeys and locations linked to religious practices. Those places are perfect for discovery both for observants and not observants of the religion.The major location is LORETO, were the shrine of the House of Mary is located. This place is embedding part of the original house of Mary in Nazareth. History says that fighters of crusaders carried parts of the house from Nazareth to Europe, stopping first in Croatia and then in Loreto.
Our land is rich in abbeys and monasteries too. The closest places to us are:
- Genga – Abbazia di San Vittore delle Chiuse
- Moie di Maiolati Spontini – Abbazia di Santa Maria delle Moie
- Fabriano – Abbazia di San Salvatore in Valdicastro
- Serra San Quirico – Abbazia di Sant’Elena
- Apiro – Abbazia di Sant’Urbano sull’Esinante
Several religious commemorations are also performed over the year, mainly in Christmas and Easter times. In Christmas time several navity scenes are reproduced live, while, in Easter time, focus is mainly on processions about Jesus passion on the holy Friday. Main events over Easter are: La Turba in Cantiano, the death of Jesus Christ in Loreto and the passion of Jesus Christ in Mogliano. A similar event occurs in Castelplanio too, where the community organizes a procession with characters and live music.
Last, but not least, the pilgrimage from Macerata to Loreto takes place each year in Spring time. On the 9th of June 2018, the 40° occurence is taking place.
